You See Yourself?
You See Yourself? is an ongoing series of portraits of Black women, girls and non-binary people. It moves beyond the idea that 'you need to be able to see us', as posed by re:present, to the recognition that we are the ones who need to be able to see ourselves, both in front of the camera and behind it.
With these photographs, I am adding to the ever growing archive of photos reflecting those still too often absent in visual representation, and emphasising my belief that we need to be able to tell our own stories.
This project received part of an ESRC grant in 2019.
